Krispy Kreme!!! I love that place and was Thrilled when I heard one opened here in Tokyo last fall. To bad that I finally went and found it in Shinjuku but didn't have enough time or energy to stand in the hour and a half line(??!!$%#&) for some donuts. (Note Cynthia's sadness when I refused to get in line and wait!))

Krispy Kreme - Is it worth it?

Working for a Living
Friday night we were fortunate to get a room at the New Sanno hotel in Tokyo so the girls and I had a fun escape. We got to go swimming and have a good time.... then Saturday morning we were up and out bright and early b/c Cynthia had 2 jobs. The first was really easy and over with in about an hour and a half.... the second was more like 4 hours and much harder as Cynthia had to deal with extensive hair-dos. Anyhow, somehow we made it through that and lived to tell you the pictures are hysterical...

Firefly Watching
Here in Japan, firefly watching is an extreme crowd sport as is everything. Apparently the fireflies only come out around rivers and only upstream where it is cleaner. So what do we do here? We all ride a train and take a PACKED bus up the mountain to a little spot on a riverbank and crowd together to stare in awe as the little critters blink. COOL! Then after a little bit of time we pack back on the bus and head down the mountain and go home. No I didn't take pictures as it was too dark and too crowded.
Somehow it seems silly that anyone would go to so much trouble for this small bug. But maybe I am the silly one for taking them for granted back home where we had so many. They are beautiful and as I fought to catch only small glimpses here I realized that I have some sweet carefree memories of leisurely chasing them and catching as many as possible on long, warm, summer nights. Sometimes it really is the little things in life that make it great....

Cynthia's Birthday
Cynthia had a fun pool party for her birthday. We had a lot of kids come (about 23 I think) but I think everything went well. Unfortunately after the party in the evening she was running a fever and I couldn't tell whether she was really sick or just had some kind of exhaustion from the day.
We haven't had our rainy season yet we've just jumped into summer with temps over 80 degrees and high humidity. Yuck!

Viv's Art
Flowers and the like

I went to an iris garden yesterday. Very pretty. Japanese people truly know how to appreciate individual plants in a stunning way. Nothing compares to such large arrangements of flowers in full bloom! Love it!
P.S. can I just boast a second that I have gotten quite skilled at backing up and parking in tight spots??!! if i do say so myself.... ;)

the trials of being a model

A few recent photos from magazines Cynthia did a while back. She hated wearing the "batman" mask and almost refused to take the picture....the crew bribed her with the fancy "princess" get-up as the next picture she would take. It worked! Now that she's seen the add-ons to the batman picture she loves it! I mean, really, who wouldn't love being in a picture with gummy bears that big?!

Tales from birthday land
I had a nice weekend..... I enjoyed all the birthday comments from people here on myspace. So, thanks to those of you who thought of me! On friday, David had a down day for work so he had most of the day off.... so he joined me for a three mile walk around the end of the airfield in the drizzle. Then we had a delicious cobb salad at a deli here on base that was excellent..... In the evening we met up with another family to eat at a restaurant in our local mall. I had a good time getting to know them and found that I have so much in common it was an easy natural start of a friendship. Saturday I drove with the girls down to Atsugi (another base about 2 hours away) for a cheer exhibition day and hung out with the same family from the night before (our kids were on the same cheerleading team). We had a good time and even went hiking in the afternoon. Today (sunday) we got up and went to church.... we even made it for sunday school for the 3rd sunday in a row - this is a real record for us! Then we met another family for lunch and the men took the kids to a local pool to play so the other lady and I went around exploring some spots around town. We checked out...(gasp***) an art exhibit at a community center and toured a small pottery workshop where the instructor tried to show me some interesting techniques..... cool. A happy and contented way to spend a birthday weekend.

Trying to keep it going....
I'm going to try to keep this blog up for those who don't use myspace. If anyone wants to make comments, be my guest. If you have any links you want to add to my page send them to me and I'll try to get them on too!
Models
Cynthia has had several modelling jobs recently. (no she doesn't really wear glasses) I'm going to try to post the pictures as the magazines come out. She LOVES having Make-up on! She usually makes quick friends with the stylists and hangs out with them as much as possible.
We've done some amazing shoots recently and I can't wait to see how they turn out!
Viv's hasn't been doing so much b/c we don't want to pull her out of school. She's in so many activities anyways that we feel she doesn't have much room for modelling now. Maybe over the summer she'll do some more.
Winter
We've had a short cccooollddd spell here right after new years... otherwise it's been mild. I like it! The kids are hoping for snow though since they got sleds for our little hill outside.
David's itching to go skiing. I'm all for him going without me... my little attempt in Pennsylvania a couple of years ago was way too shocking. (I never did figure out how to go left.... somehow I could only get the hang of right.)
